Riley Started playing his fiddle at the the age of 3 as a student of the Ottawa Suzuki Strings. He was instructed by Alice Joy Lewis, Shirley Star, and other Suzuki Strings instructors until the age of 10. He then started focusing more on fiddle. Riley was fortunate to study under David Kaemmer, private fiddle and fiddle contest instructor from Shawnee, Kansas. Riley and his parents traveled to 13 fiddle contests the year he was 10 years old. He won first place in 11 out of those 13 contests. Rileys winning titles include 2 time Kansas State Fiddle Champion, Junior Division, Oklahoma State Junior Fiddle Champion, Junior Junior Division, . Riley was a 3 time divisional champion in the Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival at the Homestead National Monument, in Beatrice, Nebraska.He placed 2nd at the Indiana State Picking and Fiddling Contest, Junior Junior Division and tied for 3rd place at the National Old Time Fiddlers' Contest and Festival, Junior Junior Division, in Wieser, Idaho along with many other competitions throughout the midwest. Riley joined Heart of America Bluegrass and Old-time Music Association and was part of their youth Bluegrass Band, The Resonators. Riley was also part of the Andy May Acoustic Kids Showcase for 5 years, at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield Kansas. More recently he has played shows with, Rosewood and Rosin, and Sunset Yearling.
Teresa started singing at church, accompanied by her mother on piano, when she was 5 years old. She was a member of Choir and Band at Wellsville High School and competed at both district and state levels earning #1 ratings. She was accepted to the State choir, performing at K-State University. Also in high school she was a member of musical groups at Kansas City Youth for Christ performing on TV Channel 50. She has performed with other musical groups such as Union Mill Opry, East B Street Band, Wheatfield Soul, Rosewood and Rosin, and most recently Sunset Yearling. It has been Teresa's greatest joy to share the stage with her husband and son.
Rob started learning to play guitar, taught by his grandfather "Fiddlin" Dan Conklin, when he was 9 years old. His grandfather also taught him to play fiddle and mandolin as time went on. Rob was part of his family's bluegrass band The Kansas City Cross pickers, throughout his youth. At the age of 16 he became a member of The Union Mill Opry country music show playing fiddle, guitar, and singing. Rob was also a part of several country bands, including, Country Reign, Latigo, Wheatfield Soul, and Rosewood and Rosin, and most recently Sunset Yearling. Rob was fortunate to be able to be Riley's accompianist (and proud Dad) in his many contest endeavors as well.
